Anthony daCosta, Alan Bigelow

Last night I played Happy Hour at Celtic Corner with Alan Bigelow of the band Circus Guy sitting in on guitar and voice... Man, what a great player and what great energy we had together. Hopefully we'll do more in the future. Afterwards I went to Coffee Labs in Tarrytown for the first real, full-length gig of Anthony daCosta of PLeasantville. Anthony is a fan of mine and we've lately been emailing back and forth a bit, talking about music, songwriting, Bob Dylan, and stuff like that. He covered my song "Last Of The Mohegans," and we did Ryan Adams' "Oh MY Sweet Carolina" together, plus "I Shall Be Released." He closed the show with a beautiful love song of his. This guy is I think only 14 years old and he sings like he's been around for a hundred years. I haven't heard too many of his other songs, mostly his own very personal versions of Bob Dylan and Beatles songs, but if the last song of the set was any indication he is already a good writer and is pretty obsessed with the craft I think so it is safe to say we can all expect to hear much more from him... I went to the show mainly just to see the show but also with the idea in mind that he could fill in for me this summer at Coffee Labs and maybe Black Cow when I am away. Michael the owner of Coffee Labs was there and we just sort of looked at each other like "yeah, he's got to fill my dates this summer... He'll be away some of the time too but watch for his name on my "Shows" page, for a few of these dates... What a cool night. I think given what has been going on around Westchester in the folk music scene, it is no surprise that someone like Anthony should pop up. The best thing is he's a really nice guy too!
